Opening Atlante Energetico
OPENING ATLANTE ENERGETICO
Conclusive event of the residency project for young artists organised by the Fondazione Spinola Banna and the GAM of Turin, and sponsored by the Compagnia di San Paolo.
At the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte from 24 to 30 June 2017
Atlante Energetico is the first stage in a three-year project that, thanks to the fundamental support of the Compagnia di San Paolo , brings together two leading cultural bodies in the Piedmontese territory: a private and a public institution, the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte and the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Turin.
The intention was to merge the various aims of the two institutions along a single path, entrusted to a young tutor, the artist Elena Mazzi, with the aim of examining the theme of energy, in turn linked to the Piedmontese territory, in the broadest and most innovative manner.
Five young artists had the chance to discuss their projects with their tutor in an intense exchange, marked by great affinity, within an itinerary that, over the span of eight months, foresaw workshops, meetings, performances and an exhibition.
Elena Mazzi, picking up on the various stimuli and the opportunities offered by the collaboration between a public and a private institution, decided in turn to broaden the perimeters of the experience, interweaving her own path of reflection, observation and study with that of figures from a range of backgrounds, whose voices are all brought together in a final publication, offering a polyphony of different interests stretching from literature to philosophy, from physics to the natural sciences.
The theme chosen, that of energy, analysed in relation to the Piedmontese territory and to one of its key resources such as rice is, provided a rich substrate of stimuli, fuelling multiple artistic elaborations that would then be found in the final show of the project, opening on 24 June at 5.30pm at the venue of the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte in Poirino.
Elena Mazzi understands the work of the artist as an opportunity for study and research, combining scientific knowledge, imaginative capacity and a holistic approach. In the past, she has focused much of her attention on themes linked to the relationship between the environment and those who live in it, to the transformations imposed onto the natural setting for the purposes of intensive exploitation, as well as the reactions of the populations and of politics to these anthropic transformations or devastating phenomena such as the earthquake in L’Aquila.
At the basis of the workshop in the Atlante Energetico project, Elena Mazzi chose to experience a little-known and largely unexplored landscape, that of the rice fields, which thus became an expedient to discuss an anthropological, social and scientific approach towards a complex territory. An articulated analysis, a working project methodology that looks at various perspectives of action carried out with a view to knowing, safeguarding and narrating, and to leaving each of the participants the freedom necessary to piece together their own research independently, while remaining part of the dialogue established with the world around them and the rest of the group.
The exhibition at the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte presents the works both by the tutor artist and by the five project participants: Paola Pasquaretta, Nadia Pugliese, Fabio Roncato, Silvia Rossi and Chiara Sgaramella. The works of Elena Mazzi will also be on display at the GAM, in a similar form yet one adapted to the museum spaces.
The exhibition will be open on 24 June from 5.30pm, and Sunday 25 June from 10am to 5.30pm, and then from 26 to 30 June. Visits must be booked in advance.Free entrance.
