The exhibition event that the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa dedicates to the artists of its Ateliers at the end of their year spent working in the studios is to be held this time with a new major collaboration project. Following the 2010 exhibition in Milan at the Viafarini / DOCVA venue, the most important documentation centre for young contemporary art in Italy, this year it was decided to undertake a mutual exchange project with the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte, a prestigious institution for the training and promotion of young artists.
Starting on 22nd February 2011, the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa will host the exhibition Mostra Annuale 2010 of the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte, held at the Banna last October, but which will be presented in Venice with a new exhibition project specially conceived for the rooms of Palazzetto Tito, curated by Benjamin Weil. The exhibition features the following artists: Andrea De Stefani, Valentina Roselli, Caterina Rossato, and HR-Stamenov, whose projects were chosen from among those of the artists who attended the workshops in 2009-2010.
Instead on 12th March 2011, the exhibition Opera 2010 will open at the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte in Poirino. The show will feature the artists who were allotted the Ateliers of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in 2010: Ivana Bukovac, Antonio Cataldo, T-Yong Chung, Nicolò Degiorgis, Roberto De Pol, Francesco Fonassi, Alessandro Laita and Chiaralice Rizzi, Diego Marcon, Caterina Rossato, Giulio Squillacciotti, Sara Francesca Tirelli and the group Unità di Crisi.
Furthermore, the opening of the exhibition will also feature the public presentation of the catalogue Atelier BLM – Quaderno 2010, in a special Moleskine (Milan) edition, illustrating the work produced by the artists and the Fondazione BLM over the course of the year of artistic residencies.
On the occasion of both exhibitions, it will be possible to consult and purchase BLM 2002>2010, the volume which traces the activities of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa from 2002 to 2010, recently published by Mousse Publishing (Milan).
Founded in 2004 by Gianluca Spinola, the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte organises seminars, workshops and conferences aimed at promoting current practices in the fields of contemporary art and music. One of the main activities of the foundation is the implementation of a programme of post-university contemporary art training, associated with a residency programme for artists under 35 working on the national territory. The Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte project is made possible thanks to the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo and thanks to the contribution of the Fondazione CRT.
The exhibitions dedicated to the artists’ ateliers, alongside the Collettiva Giovani Artisti (this year in its 94th edition), provide a testimony of the Fondazione BLM’s belief in its important mission of supporting young artistic research, according to which every year for more than a century – ever since its founding – it has allotted studios to the most deserving artists, chosen through a public contest. The 12 artists’ spaces are housed in the evocative cloister of Saints Cosma & Damiano on the Giudecca Island, and within Palazzo Carminati in San Stae, in the centre of Venice. Our special thanks go to Moleskine, Stonefly and the Lions Club for their precious contributions to the activities of the BLM Ateliers 2010.
The graphic image used in the poster and the invite for the two events was designed and created by Thomas Braida, the 2009 winner of the Study Grant for graphic art, assigned at the 93rd Collettiva Giovani Artisti of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa.
