Organising Committee for the Italian Foundations of Contemporary Art
The MiBACT welcomes the Committee of the Foundations of Contemporary Art: the president Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and the Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini sign the protocol of understanding.
Following the creation of the new Directorate General of Contemporary Art, Architecture and Urban Outskirts, MiBACT’s commitment continues ever more in the first line in terms of valorisation and promotion of contemporary artistic heritage. In the wake of the constitution of the Committee of the Foundations of Contemporary Art, presided over and strongly promoted by Patrizia Sandretto Re Baudengo, on 22nd September last year in Turin, the Committee signed a protocol of understanding with the Ministry of Cultural Assets, Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini, with the very aim of developing joint collaborations for the promotion of contemporary art both in Italy and abroad. The private contemporary art foundations which are part of the committee, created with the aim of networking, are spread throughout Italy, from North to South. These are no-profit foundations with an international vocation, while being based in Italy.
“The protocol that we signed today lays the foundations for close collaboration between the public and private sectors,” stated Dario Franceschini. “This signing also goes some way towards making up for the shortcomings of the country and its policies towards contemporary art: it is a duty to proudly protect our past, but the aim is also to aim towards the future, giving the chance to offer artists’ residencies to our young talents as well as those from other countries,” added the Minister, underlining the need to offer an opportunity for mixing “also in order to build a European identity.”
“This is an important day for contemporary art and for the many private foundations working in this field,” declared the President of the Committee Patrizia Sandretto Re Baudengo, among the promotors of the initiative over the course of a crowded press conference in the Hall of the Ministry, “from today onwards, the Ministry and the Committee of the Foundations will work together for young Italian artists, in order to create a system for education, mediation and to make sure that in our country, contemporary art may take on a fundamental role.”
The signing of the protocol is also part of the guidelines of the new Directorate General of Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Outskirts, headed by Federica Galloni: “The aim is to achieve a recognition of contemporary heritage akin to the classical one” the architect explained. “There is a great need to believe in it,” concluded Dario Franceschini, “there is still a lot of work to be done, and here I’m thinking of the sector of civic museums of contemporary art and the relationship between urban spaces and outlying areas.”
The Foundations represented on the Committee are: Fondazione Brodbeck (Catania), Città dell’arte-Fondazione Pistoletto Onlus (Biella, Turin), Fondazione Giuliani per l'Arte Contemporanea (Rome), Fondazione Memmo – Onlus (Rome), Fondazione Mario Merz (Turin), Fondazione Antonio Morra Greco (Naples), Nomas Foundation Onlus (Rome). E, ancora Fondazione Pastificio Cerere (Rome), Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana – Pinault Collection (Venice), Fondazione Antonio Ratti (Como), Fondazione Pier Luigi e Natalina Remotti (Camogli, Genoa), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte (Poirino, Turin), Fondazione Nicola Trussardi (Milan), Fondazione VOLUME!
