Stefano Arienti
From 29 June to 4 July 2015 the Spinola Banna Foundation for Art will host the curatorial workshop with Stefano Arienti, the Italian artist with a long international career, who has often organised site-specific exhibition projects in the city of Turin: “I Murazzi dalla cima”, “Corte di Dei” both at the Murazzi in Turin; he organised “Multiplayer”, a multifunctional equipped field where boys and girls can play without disturbing other residents, together with the a.titolo association and schools in the Mirafiori area in Turin; and finally, “Tappeto”, exhibited at the Rivoli Castle International Museum of Contemporary Art.
The artist, as a master of his profession, will share his artistic experience with eight young Italian artists or artists resident in Italy, all under 35, selected among the participants in the previous workshops in April and June 2015: Filippo Bisagni, Giorgio Cugno, Stefano Serretta, Virginia Francia, Federico Tosi, Andrea Galliazzo and Andrea Ottaviani.
The workshop will be intensive: the guests will live and work together on the Banna estate, in a restructured multi-functional area that has bedrooms, laboratories and spacious areas immersed in nature.
Stefano Arienti was born in Asola, in the province of Mantova, in 1961. Reworking "poor" materials and in common use - which include frequently paper, books and images taken from postcards, posters or photocopies, as well polystyrene, plastic, clay, fabrics - Arienti creates works that surprise the viewer, I invite you to reflect on the theme of "wonder" and will encourage participation, also through manipulation.
Among the numerous exhibitions in which he participated, you can mention the Venice Biennale (Aperto 1990, 1993); Istanbul Biennial (1992); Cocido y Crudo, Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid (1994); XII Quadrennial in Rome, 1996 (first prize); Fatto in Italia, Centre d'Art Contemporain, Geneva; ICA, London (1997); Gwangju Biennale (2008).
Among the most recent solo: MAXXI, Rome (2004); Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (2005); Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (2007); Querini Stampalia Foundation, Venice (2008); MAMbo (with Cesare Pietroiusti, 2008); Palazzo Ducale, Mantova (2009); Museion, Bolzano (with Massimo Bartolini, 2011).
