Liquid Door
Liquid Door: a publishing project held on the occasion of the solo shows of the artistic duo Isola & Norzi, staged in 2010 at Art in General, New York and at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice. The book was put together thanks to the contribution of the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte, which used this project to mark the start of a series of publications dedicated to the artists of the Venetian foundation. Liquid Door, originally commissioned by Art in General in 2009, is the result of painstaking research into the work of Jacques Cousteau undertaken by Isola & Norzi in the development and construction stages of the two solo exhibitions, held in 2010 in two water’s edge cities: New York and Venice. With an extraordinary repertoire of images and the contribution of images and texts, the volume bears witness to the long process of analysis and translation of the materials, turning out to be a natural sciences resource in its own right. The relationship between documentary and fiction, the theme of memory and lightness, the notion of the abyss as a mental space and of heightened senses, the poetics of the relict right up to the analysis of the ocean as an inhabitable territory are just some of the themes raised by this publishing project. Curated by Andria Hickey and Paola Nicolin, Liquid Door was designed by Mylinh Trieu Nguyen and published by Art in General in collaboration with Mousse Magazine.
