Atlante Energetico
Final publication of the annual project ATLANTE ENERGETICO, collaboration with Fondazione Spinola e GAM Torino

“Atlante Energetico is the first stage of a three-year itinerary which, thanks to the fundamental support of the Compagnia di San Paolo, brings together two institutions of quite different natures: the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Turin and the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte. The former has a largely conservational and expositive vocation, while the latter has always focused on training activities. We wanted to bring these different aims into a single path, entrusting a young tutor, the artist Elena Mazzi, with the aim of guiding the theme of the project in the broadest and most innovative manner.
Five young artists thus had the chance to interact with their tutor in an extraordinarily rich exchange of great affinity, within an itinerary which over a time span of just eight months foresaw workshops, meetings, performances and an exhibition.
Elena Mazzi, drawing on various stimuli and the opportunities offered by the collaboration between a public and a private institution, decided in turn to open up the perimeter of experience, intertwining her own paths of reflection, observation and study with those of figures from different realities, whose voices may be found in this book in a polyphony of interests ranging from literature to philosophy, from physics to the natural sciences. While observing the work in progress, we noted that the theme chosen – energy, analysed in relation to the Piedmont territory and one of its key resources, namely rice – offered a rich sublayer of further stimuli, fostering multiple artistic elaborations which may be traced through the exhibition which will conclude our project.
To Elena Mazzi along with Chiara, Nadia, Paola, Silvia and Fabio, we wish the bright future that they all deserve. To all those who have taken part in this project, making it special with their art, science and experience, our most heartfelt thanks are due.”
