Fabio Vacchi: Music project 2007
For Vacchi the musical work is not simply a contrivance of abstract structures but also – within a context of rigorous compositional standards – a means of trying to reach the very soul of the listener, and a vehicle for the often poignant expression of his concern for contemporary issues. (Jean Jacques Nattiez)
The prestigious music Maestro Fabio Vacchi has been invited to programme and coordinate the first edition of the music workshop. In line with the projects objectives, he identified two young authors, Silivia Colasanti and Luca Marcossi, from whom the Foundation commissioned a work for string quartet.
A string quartet has been selected as the initial chamber ensemble to launch the project, and represents a fundamental structure, a symbol of instrumental civilization.
At the Foundation, the two composers will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the musicians of the Cremona Quartet, who will interpret the new composition in the concert hall of the Banna estate.
The concert programme, in which the two new works will be presented, will include the Third Quartet by Fabio Vacchi and the La Morte e la Fanciulla quartet by Franz Schubert.
The two commissioned compositions by Silvia Colasanti and Fabio Marcossi will be made available on compact disc at a later stage.
Fabio Vacchi Biography
For Vacchi the musical work is not simply a contrivance of abstract structures but also – within a context of rigorous compositional standards – a means of trying to reach the very soul of the listener, and a vehicle for the often poignant expression of his concern for contemporary issues. (Jean Jacques Nattiez)
Fabio Vacchi does not belong to a particular school or trend, but his music is distinct with clearly identifiable traits. His personal idea of simplification is not simple at all; the idea of beauty, of pleasure is anything but univocal. This is not to say, that the legacy of experimentation has been abandoned in favour of an overly immediate appeal. The paths are interwoven, but the result of the composing process is unambiguous, as shown by the series of works linked together and to a greater extent more complete as musical creations. It has been highlighted that the issues contemporary music faces relate to form, however, even more, they are issues of content, of inner void. Vacchi is an artist rich in cultural and human means. His mastery, refined in the most forceful structural technique, his emotive response, connectivity to the earth and to daily, tangible, affections; his sensitivity for popular and dialectal roots, an opening to languages of far-flung countries, a world full of distant and near suggestions, but united as one by a sentiment able to progress with all these differences, nourishing one another.
